Concrete Pool Deck Installation

Scope of Work

Johnson’s Concrete was contracted by a homeowner to install a 792 square foot concrete slab around a newly constructed swimming pool. Johnson’s Concrete provided all the materials and labor for this project.

The Process

Work began by prepping the site and placing a form to mark the overall layout. Initial work was delayed due to heavy rains. The unseasonably heavy rainfall softened the ground surrounding the site, impeding navigation of a concrete truck that was scheduled to make a delivery to the site. Whereas the owner wanted us to begin work on the site as quickly as possible, we reassured them that it was in their best interest for us to wait for optimal conditions, this would allow us to complete the job safely, properly, and without risk of damage to their property.

At Johnson’s Concrete, we prides ourselves on being able to deliver custom solutions to each of our clients based on not only the intricacies of each site, but the desires of the customer. For this job, we initially considered using a concrete pump due to the concrete delivery truck being unable to navigate the rain softened site. The customer did not want to incur additional costs for the pump, however, so we waited for the ground to harden to allow the delivery truck to properly navigate the site. This reflects our commitment to working with our clients to determine what options are best for the project and their budget.

Once the rains cleared, site work continued in earnest. The video below shows our crew tamping the ground to ensure the ground is tight and compact before we pour the concrete slab. A firmly tamped ground reduces the risk of the concrete developing cracks as it cures. A loose/soft foundation makes it difficult for the concrete slab to settle and hold its strength over time.

Other than the rain delays, this was a straightforward project Johnson’s Concrete undertook and the client was more than pleased with how the project came together and what it looked like in the end.
